Geonics
EM-61
The historical dumping of metal waste by man, controlled or otherwise
has resulted in vast areas of green and brown sites with a potentially
unknown legacy of buried material. Consequently when such areas are required
to be used or re-developed, geophysical surveys are often the first approach
as they are fast and relatively low cost. One tool frequently used in
such circumstances is the Geonics EM-61 metal locater.
By use of the two coil design the EM-61 allows surveys to be carried out
within close proximity to sources of cultural noise, such as buildings
and metal fences.
The EM-61 was designed to offer the accurate location of the metal objects
such as buried drums, UXOs (un-exploded bombs) and other metal
objects. Currently applications include the detection of UXOs as
a result of the construction of reclaimed land. Dredging operations can
often dredge up UXOs which are in turn deposited along with desired
material, creating an new and real hazard condition.
